Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Ouch! Boot Camp is kicking my butt!
(Which is fitting since one of the exercises is to kick my butt while running back and forth across the court!)
But I'm so excited!
My record for a timed mile is 19:53.
(Yes, I realize I was not born to be a runner!!)
And today it was 15:58!!
My goal for the last three years has been to get a mile under 15:00 and I'm hoping that after this month log boot camp I'll be able to accomplish that!
I'm also SO SORE!
Epsom salt, ice, heat packs, I'm doing it all!
OUCH!

The hardest thing was being really sore and coming back today knowing how sore I was!
I'm still going back again tonight though!

I weighed in today at 211.
UGH!
It's painful to see it that high! I gained 11. lbs in two weeks!!
I just feel so gross!
Though Monday night was the last night of my antibiotics so (fingers crossed) my weight will finally go down again!!

How was your week?

Boot Camp and a 10k

I'm on antibiotics for this kidney infection still but Monday night will be the last pill! Due to the antibiotics, I'm up to 208.5 and can no longer fit into my size 12 jeans. I've gained 10lbs from the infection and antibiotics (Not fun at all!) and can't WAIT until it's all over and done with so I can get back on track!!

But... I start BOOT CAMP on Monday!
That's right! Fitness boot camp!
"The Adventure Boot Camp is a four-week outdoor program that offers fitness instruction, nutritional counseling & motivational training - packed with fun and energizing activities designed to help you reach your fitness goals."
I have the opportunity to go 7 days a week and I'm hoping to make it to at least 5 of the 7 all four weeks!

I'm SO excited! Nervous? Yes! But incredibly excited!

I'm also doing a 10k on May 8th!

Very nervous about that one! I am not a runner.
Or a walker for that matter!
Haha! That will change soon enough!

It's "The 2010 Human Race" in Santa Rosa which is a huge fundraiser that benefits over 100 non-profits in Sonoma County! Such a great cause!

Am I ready to get my butt kicked into shape? Or rather am I ready to do the kicking?

Bring. It. On.

How was your week?

Hide and Go Seek

So I apologize for not having a official weigh-in Wednesday these past two Wednesdays. I havn't disappeared but have rather been hiding. I've been doing really well calorie wise but last week only lost .5 and then by the beginning of this week gained, getting up to 206.5.  I was freaking out.

Then, Tuesday I was diagnosed with a kidney infection. This made sense in my weight gain because whenever I have a bad infection my body puts on a TON of weight. With an infection last fall I gained 7 lbs in two days. This time, in a matter of four days along with weight I've gained two inches around my waist...so far. What is the two inches? Water maybe? All I know is how frustrating it is to be working my butt off only to gain weight and inches and feel like I'm back where I started.

Tonight will be my fourth night into the antibiotics in a 14-day treatment. I can only hope that I don't get any bigger. As it is I feel like I'm swelling up. Do you remember in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory when Violet Beauregarde turns blue and swells up into a giant blueberry? Yeah I feel just like that (without  the whole color changing thing, though that sounds like it would be kind of cool now that I think about it! As long as it were temporary!)

How did your week go?

(A Not So Fabulous) Weigh-In Wedesday

As I knew the turnout would show, this is not one of my prouder weeks.

This is the outcome of stress, emotional eating and eating a LOT of extra salt.

+4.5 lbs

This means only that next week has incredible potential.

These Are The Days..

These are the days that all this calorie counting, stressing out and pain is worth it.

The idea that shopping is a remedy for a bad day has always been a strange one for me. Usually shopping leads to me walking away upset that things don't fit right.

Today I got to experience that shopping really does help remedy a bad day!
You ready?

Size. 12. Jeans!
(Down from a size 22 in August!)

AND

My first sexy dress.

For the first time in too long of a time, I feel like I'm not just "a pretty face".

I love my iPhone app "Lose It" which makes it so easy to keep track of the calories I eat on the go!
My current daily calorie budget is 1,193 calories.
(It's actually 1,393 calories but subtracting 200 allows for a little error and my medication and vitamin calories!)
I managed to stay under my calorie budget every day but today when I went over by around 70 calories.

I've been taking modern dance two days a week for an hour and a half each time which I love. I feel completely at home when I'm dancing! (What do you love doing?)

I also needed to get out some emotional stress yesterday so I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes and even ran at a 5.5 mph speed for over a minute!

I'm not a runner by any means but I'm determined!
My goal is to get to a 15 minute mile (which I've never done, my fastest is 19min 48sec) by my birthday (which is at the end of November).
I've come a long way to even accomplish this much activity! Just a few months ago, when working with a physical therapist for my Hypermobility/Ehlers-Danlos my goal was to be able to dance again and be able to take a five minute walk without blacking out!
(She thought my goal of ever dancing again was a long shot! I've now been back to dancing for almost five weeks!)

I also thought I'd mention that my goal is to get to 163 lbs which would put me at 14% body fat.

To make up for my lack of blogging for the last month I thought I'd post my exciting news!
I went to get new jeans on the 2nd of January and guess what!? After losing 31 lbs I fit into size 14 jeans! That's down from a size 22 just this past Fall! (and a MED/LG shirt!..Taking into mind my size "I" breasts..yes. You heard me right. Size."I".) I also had to get a new bra and found I'd lost 2" in my waist and was down from a 36/38 I to a 34 I!

SIZE 14!

And more exciting still I'm so close to fitting into size 12's!

^ Size 12! (SOO Close!)

(P.S. Have you ever used the body fat calculator? It's really helpful in figuring out what a realistic goal weight is for your body!)

How did you do this week?

The "Lifetime Membership"

Happy Tuesday!

A couple of days ago I received a really encouraging email from a new bloggy friend Sandi
She reminded me of my lack of posts and lack of updates on this blog.
I realized that the month has gone by so fast and I've neglected my blogging!
Thanks for the push Sandi!

I've decided to make this post a bit about me and my past and part of why I am where I am now.

(For the moral of the story, scroll to the bottom.)

Remember back in the days of high school when it was all the rage to be in a club? Glee Club, Chess Club, Cheerleading Club, Drama Club. I've realized that no matter our age, we all belong to clubs. Whether it be the Mommy Club, the Wife Club or the Weight-loss Club, we tend to gather around people with shared experiences. Even when the experience is over we are still "lifetime members", we will always have our memories. No one can understand certain parts of our lives quite like our club buddies.

I've come to find that at this point in my life, I belong to many clubs. I belong to the Weight-loss Club, the Teacher Club, the College Student Club, the Grief Club, the Baby Loss Club, the Best Friend loss Club, the Emotional Eater's Club, the Boarding School Club, the Blogger Club, the Photographer Club, the Dancer Club, the Optimism Club and so many others.

I'm here to tell you about one of the clubs I belonged to, the Anorexia Club. I feel that this is important to explain because it helps to shed light into where I am today.

I am a dancer. My body is not built to dance. In fact it tries to run the opposite direction while I'm dancing (it's my heart that's kept me in it all these years.)
When I was in middle school, I was dancing thirteen hours a week. From the time I was born, I've been overweight. Neither that nor my curvy bone structure were acceptable in the dance world. They wanted people who were stick thin with no curves. They made that quite well known to me. One of the worst experiences I have engraved in my mind was when my dance teacher stood me behind one of the thinnest girls in class so I could see myself on both sides of her in the mirror. It's no wonder eating disorders are so prevalent in the dance world.

Every time I looked in the mirror, all I began to see was a girl who was fat. I stopped eating. For a month, all I would eat was rice, soy sauce and water. That mixed with dancing those thirteen hours a week allowed me to watch the pounds drop. I became thinner and thinner and still, I was told I was too fat to be a real dancer. My body image had become completely warped. In only a matter of months I'd gone from looking like

this to like

this.
I figured that this not eating thing was helping me lose weight so it must be good! I started having to sit down in classes in fear of collapsing. The grey circles under my eyes became more and more prominent.
Everyone around me told me I looked great. Looking back, I looked sick. I was sick.

Eight months later, I was uprooted and had to move to a different town in the middle of eighth grade, in the middle of a huge falling out with my best friend. I fell into a deep depression and as I'd done all my life, I turned to food.
Before I knew it, I'd gained 80 lbs by the end of the ninth grade.
I looked in the mirror for the one day and suddenly saw this.

Since then I've been in a constant struggle with my weight. Whenever I'm losing weight my body starts freaking out and trying to hold onto the weight in fear that I'm going to deprive it again.
I also now have a medical issue that requires me to eat 8 time as much salt in a day than the average person. If I don't I begin to have fainting spells. Anyone who's ever cracked open a weight loss book knows that one of the first things you're supposed to cut down on when dealing with weight loss is sodium because salt=water weight. This just makes the uphill battle that much steeper.

No, I was never diagnosed by an MD with anorexia because I was never "under weight" for me it was a mindset.

Moral:
These days I don't look in the mirror and say, "I have/had an eating disorder."
I now look in the mirror and instead of asking myself, "Do I feel fat today?" I ask, "Do I feel beautiful today?" Most days, the answer is yes. I refuse to define my life by my weight. I refuse to define my happiness by my weight. Would I like to lose weight? Absolutely. Am I going to make myself sick to accomplish that? No. Am I going to work my butt off (literally) until I can fit into those size 10 jeans?
YOU BET!

I now feel beautiful because of the choices I make in my life each and every day. Moment by moment.
It's taken a lot to come to the realization that while we can't control the cards we're dealt, we can control how we choose to react.
Stay tuned for the first official Weigh-In Wednesday tomorrow!

And as a quick picture update before I go, here's a self portrait I took today.

Welcome 2010, Welcome To My Blog

Happy New Year!

For those of you who I've yet to have the pleasure of meeting,
I'm Krissy!

Welcome to my new blog and the journey to accomplish my new years resolution!
As the blog title puts it, this will be my journey to go from a size 20 to a size 10 in the year 2010!
I started my healthy lifestyle journey back in October and have lost 35.5 lbs but still have a long way to go!

This blog is also an open invitation to join me on a journey to living healthy!
Do you have a weight loss blog or even blog about losing weight? Are you hoping to start with the ringing in of this new, glorious decade?
I'd love to put a link to your blog on the sidebar here! Feel free to post the link in the comment's section and I'll put it up!

I'll also be doing a Weigh-in Wednesday segment that I'd love for you to join me in! Don't worry, you don't have to tell the blogosphere your numbers like I will be (though you're more than welcome to)! All you have to do is write out your goals for the coming week and if you accomplished your goals in the previous week and if you're willing to, report if you gained or lost for the week!
I'll put a link-up each Wednesday!

Let's make this year a year of health, happiness, change and weight loss!

Happy 2010!!
